Pro-bono meets a full schedule would be the best way to define this project. Cortex handled the site design for the Austin Lyric Opera for some time, but a full overhaul was needed. With limited resources and a limited timeframe, we were able to build ALO a new site framework for the future. Combined with original artwork by Tocquigny, we were able to meet ALO’s desire of a refreshing and inviting atmosphere. We also took into account that ALO’s non-technical staff would handle maintenance of the site. ALO handled the production and design after hand-off of the original templates.

My job was to develop a new overall look that was a departure from their previous dark and dim site. I incorporated a palette, similar to the muted colors of their headquarters, to soften the look. Under a tight schedule, I worked ALO through the information architecture of the site. I then developed parent and child templates that could easily be altered to fit their needs. I also lead the conception of, plus wrapped up the actionscripting for a flash animation that outlined the upcoming season. I programmed the HMTL, for the templates, to assist their in-house programmer.
